Loose leaf sheng pu-erh 2021 from perennial trees from Manno ("Manno gushu", 曼糯古树, mànnuò gǔshù).
The Mannuo tea region (曼糯, mànnuò) is located west of Menghai and administratively belongs to this county (Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province). Tea trees are located at an altitude of 1200-1300 meters above sea level. This gushu sheng puer is collected from wild perennial trees, the age of which reaches 300-500 years.
The spicy and sweet dry aroma of gushu sheng gives associations with ripe juicy hairy apricots. Warmed aroma: compote dried fruit notes with hints of smoked meats, raisins and sweet pastries. During the tea drinking process, compote and smoked notes intensify in the aroma during the first steeps, the taste of sheng is light, sweet with an oily aftertaste. With further steeps, the aroma continues to play with nectarines and apples, and in the aftertaste, over time, the astringent bitterness of tannins and a long-lasting sweetness that goes down the throat are revealed.
A complex, interesting sheng for connoisseurs of aromatics, which will be especially surprising if you keep it in your collection and leave it for storage.
When warmed up with your breath, you can feel a multifaceted, bright aroma, with warm camphor notes, fruity and berry nuances in which black currant, dogwood, and blackberry can be discerned.
After washing, a balanced aroma is felt, young peas, spicy touches, sweetish and herbal shades are added.
The taste of brewed tea is surprisingly soft, sweetish, sometimes gentle, direct. The taste contains fruit-compote compositions, camphor, slightly spicy notes with the sweetness of ripe melon.
With steeping, the tea shows its character, which is felt in the taste: strong, moderately tart, with a slight bitterness that instantly turns into sweetness.
This sheng has a long aftertaste that comes after some time. It is a pleasant fruity sweetness with honey and herbal tones, the more time has passed since the end of tea drinking, the more voluminous the aftertaste is revealed.
From the first cups you feel a powerful tea state. Tea intoxicates, relaxes, disconnects from the hustle and bustle, anxiety and haste. Concentrates, sobers up, sharpens the senses. It has a strong tonic effect, makes you do something.
This tea should be brewed with water at a temperature of no more than 90°C, since it is still young, the leaves are tender, and the infusion will be too bitter. It can be brewed in a gaiwan or in a Yixing clay teapot. Proportion: 5 grams per 100 ml.

Pu-erh is one of the most unique types of tea, which only gets better with age. Many people, when they first encounter this tea, wondered: why is pu-erh more often found in pressed form (cakes, bricks, tochas), and not in loose form? The reasons for this are related to both history and the practical aspects of storing and fermenting tea. Despite modern technologies that allow the production of loose pu-erh, the shape of pressed cakes remains unchanged. And pu-erh is more often found on sale in pressed form, for example, in the form of cakes or bricks, and loose pu-erh is less common.
