Pu'erh leaves are dense, not brittle, and not overdried. When dry, they have a fragrant, sweet-and-sour aroma of camphor mixed with dried apricots and prunes. After washing the pu'er in a gaiwan, the aroma of white plums and baked green apples emerged.
The 2018 Mengsong Xiaoshu loose-leaf sheng pu'er, despite its age, is not bold, lacking bitterness or characteristic astringency. It's like a fruit and berry compote, sweet and sour, yet balanced. The flavor reveals ripe berries, white plums, dried apricots, prunes, and figs. By the fourth steeping, a distinctive note of ripe green gooseberry begins to dominate.
This sheng pu -erh tea can withstand up to five steepings, after which the infusion becomes very watery. The finished infusion is yellow-green, and the tea is clear with a slight sediment. The aftertaste is long and refreshing, like drinking a compote of dried fruits and ripe berries.
The effect of drinking this sheng puer is accompanied by clearing of thoughts, uplifting of mood, general improvement of condition and strong energy.
The 2018 Mengsong Xiaoshu sheng pu'er can be purchased for storage, placed in a tea caddy, and will only improve with each passing year. However, this particular pu'er is ready to drink now. Lovers of young, fresh sheng pu'er will appreciate it, as it lacks boldness and bitterness.
