Title: " Jin Mudan "
Translation: " Golden Peony "
Whale. 金牡丹, pinyin jīn mǔdan
Origin: Wuyi Mountains (武夷山, wǔyíshān), Fujian Province (福建, fújiàn), China.
This cultivar is a hybrid of the southern varieties Tieguanyin and Huangdan (黄旦, huáng dàn), which was formed in the late 70s of the last century at the Tea Research Institute of the Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (福建省农业科学院茶叶研究所). Territorially, it is grown in the protected part of Wuyi, called Zhengyang. The variety is notable for its resistance to drought and cold, as well as a higher yield of 10-50% compared to the parent bushes.
Appearance, aroma and taste
The leaves are of different shades, loosely twisted, with the same matte texture. Relatively light shades indicate a weak roast. The dry aroma captures garden flowers, dried fruits and rose hips. The color of the infusion can be expressed as a golden orange. The mouth is filled with a woody-fruity range of flavors with a characteristic line of a cliff melody.

Jin Mudan is a relatively new variety of Wuyi tea with large brown and red-brown leaves. When dry, it has a velvety, floral-fruity aroma with prominent notes of fresh rose hips and blooming wild rose.
The taste of the brewed tea is light, spicy and floral. The taste suggests caramel, blooming wild rose, and a sweet and sour berry cocktail. By the fourth steeping, a slight astringency comes into the taste, and pleasant spicy notes intensify. "Golden Peony" can withstand up to 5 steepings. This tea should be brewed at a temperature no higher than 85-90 °C, taking 5 grams of tea per 150 ml of gaiwan or teapot made of Yixing clay. Jin Mudan gives a clean, transparent infusion of a yellow-brown color.
During the tea drinking process, a sweetish spicy-floral aftertaste with a slight astringency is felt. The effect of drinking this type of tea is accompanied by concentration of attention, good warming of the whole body and a meditative state.
Jin Mudan will appeal to lovers of red tea who are looking for something new. In addition, it is well suited for winter consumption due to its ability to warm the human body in a unique way.
