Rhododendron adamsii, or sagan-daila, is an evergreen plant of the genus Rhododendron in the Ericaceae family. Its distribution ranges from the Russian Far East and Sakhalin Island through the Western and Eastern Sayan Mountains to the northeastern foothills of Tibet. The name of the rhododendron adamsii also varies depending on the geography of its habitat. The most well-known names are "fragrant wild rosemary," "Belogorsky tea," "dal-gabro," and "da-li." However, its most popular name is "sagan-daila" or "sakhandalya," which translates as "white wing." It is widely used in Tibetan folk medicine.
Sagan-daily leaves have an interesting coloring—matte green on top and reddish underneath. The flowers are beautiful, soft or bright pink. But the aroma deserves special mention—it reveals a whole palette, from tart florals and sweet woody notes to ethereal pine notes. When brewed, the aroma becomes very intense. The infusion has a pleasant, tart flavor.
Ideal for both steeping on its own and adding to tea. Because sagan-daylya is so aromatic, it requires only a small amount—2-3 leaves per 500 ml of water.
