"Dongfang Meiren" from Shiding

东方美人 – Dōng Fāng Měi Rén.
Oriental Beauty or Dong Fang Mei Ren is a unique Taiwanese tea variety that deserves to be called Beauty with a capital letter.
During production, this tea reaches the maximum oxidation among oolongs (approximately 70-80%). At first acquaintance with it, you can even think that this is a red tea, but according to production technologies, Dongfang Meiren belongs to dark oolongs.
Oriental Beauty is prepared from a tea bush brought to Taiwan from Northern Fujian in the 19th century, and thus Dong Fang Mei Ren is a distant relative of the well-known Da Hong Pao.
The most interesting and impressive fact is that Oriental Beauty is an organically pure tea. Imagine, Dong Fang Mei Ren is collected exclusively in the summer and the most important component, one might even say the main producer, of this tea are cicadas. A cicada is a green fly that feeds on the juice of tea leaves, due to which, even before harvesting, the tea begins to oxidize, because during such an attack, the tea bush turns on its self-defense: the leaves produce a large amount of polyphenols and tannins. Such features of growing and preparing tea give Oriental Beauty a unique fruity aroma.
Yellowed leaves and a large number of buds are used in the production of Dongfang Meiren tea, and cicadas are proof of the organic nature of the tea, since the vast majority of farmers now spray tea bushes with pesticides to scare away cicadas.
This is a unique product created by the fusion of nature, represented by cicadas, and the skill of tea farmers.
The aroma when warmed up with breath is intoxicating, rich, sweetish. Tropical fruits are guessed in it: mango, papaya, milky apple, the fragrance of flowers is well felt: violet, orchid, lily.
After washing the tea leaves, the aroma is enhanced, adding a melodic profile of linden honey.
The taste of the oriental beauty is poetic, aristocratic. Tropical fruits, linden honey, fruity shades with a pleasant tartness harmonize perfectly with each other.
The aftertaste is indescribable and very rich. Honey sweetness with hints of tropical fruits and flower nectar remains on the lips for a long time.
The tea can withstand 6 full steeps at a ratio of 5 g of dry tea leaves per 150 ml porcelain gaiwan. The resulting infusion is transparent and clean, bright honey-colored.
After just two cups of tea, a pure and meditative tea state comes. This is harmony and calm, spiritual uplift, clarity of thoughts, openness and disposition to the entire surrounding world.
Oriental beauty Dongfang Meiren from Shiding is a unique tea with an exquisite taste and unforgettable aftertaste. This is a whole poetry in a bowl, tea that you want to enjoy from cup to cup, sharing impressions with loved ones.
