Among popular high-mountain teas, Taiwanese Da Yu Ling oolong tea occupies a special place. This variety is characterized by excellent taste, has medicinal properties, and withstands numerous infusions. Da Yu Ling tea is grown in limited quantities, as the plantations are quite small. The price of this product is quite high. But this does not deter true connoisseurs, as Da Yu Ling is considered one of the best teas in Taiwan.
Taiwanese oolongs are tightly rolled leaves (semi-fermented) that have the aroma of green tea but the flavor of red tea. The first mention of tea plantations in Taiwan dates back to 1717. By the late 18th century, tea trade had already begun, and in the 19th century, Taiwanese oolongs gained significant popularity in many countries.
Da Yu Ling tea has been cultivated by the Taiwanese for centuries, but it only gained widespread recognition in the 1980s. Among Taiwan's oolong teas, it is considered one of the most prized. Da Yu Ling has received numerous awards in its homeland and has gained a large following worldwide.
The famous tea is grown on Taiwan's Da Yu Ling mountain range, after which it is named. The mountain range, in turn, received its name from the mythological figure Da Yu. According to legend, the hero managed to stop a dangerous flood.
The Da Yu Mountain Range stretches across several provinces of Taiwan. It is one of the highest tea plantations in the world. The tea is grown in an ecologically pristine area surrounded by dense forests. The plantations are located at an altitude of 2,100-2,700 meters above sea level.
The climate is characterized by significant temperature fluctuations, which gives tea its unique flavor and healing properties. In the morning, the plants are saturated with sunlight and synthesize beneficial micronutrients. In the afternoon, the mists slow the metabolism of the tea bushes, preserving these nutrients.
