Baxian Dan Cong: Eight Immortals of Oolong Tea
Ba Xian Dan Cong Kit (八仙单丛, pinyin: bāxiān dāncōng) is one of the most revered and respected oolong tea varieties from Guangdong province. Its name translates as "Eight Immortal Single Bushes" and is associated with the legend of the eight seedlings that gave rise to this variety.
This upright, varietal tree grows on Mount Wudong. The mineral-rich soil in this area makes this variety one of the most prized, with a floral, honey-like aroma. Ba Xian features large, longitudinally twisted, dark leaves with light green highlights. Tea production begins with drying, followed by air-withering using specialized equipment. After cold drying, the leaves undergo light roasting, then crushing, and finally, drying over charcoal. This modern processing technology preserves the tea's unrivaled floral aroma.
History and origin
The history of Ba Xian Dan Cong begins in the late 19th century. In 1898, a local farmer planted a tea plantation, in which only eight seedlings survived. It was from these eight bushes that the story of this unique variety began.
