Huangzhi Xiang Dancong: A Floral Aroma in Every Cup
Huangzhi Xiang Dancong (Italian: 黄枝香单从, pinyin: huángzhī xiāng dāncóng) is one of the most popular and recognizable varieties of oolong tea, grown in China's Guangdong province. Its name translates as "Single Bushes with the Fragrance of Huangzhi," where Huangzhi refers to the orange blossom.
History and origin
This variety is the result of centuries of selective breeding of tea bushes on Mount Feng Huang. Thanks to its unique aroma, Huangzhi Xiang quickly gained popularity among tea connoisseurs.
It grows on small bushes with elongated, oval-shaped leaves that ripen late. There are 2,500 plants. In the mountainous region, buds appear in early to mid-March. Harvesting takes place from late April to early May through mid-October. Five to six harvests of excellent quality with a distinctive, distinct aroma are harvested annually. This tea has won gold medals at various international tea exhibitions. At the second and third All-China Tea Cups, it won a gold award and the title of "Famous Tea of Guangdong."
This is one of the ten main dancong teas with a honey aroma. It is quite expensive and rare. The dried leaf is large, with the color and texture of brown nubuck. The aroma clearly reveals the floral scent of gardenia jasminoides. The tea is fragrant and quickly fills the surrounding space. The aroma is sharp, high, and distinct. The infusion is yellow and clear. It has a pleasant, elegant taste with sweet undertones and a lingering aftertaste. It is easy to drink and resistant to steeping.

When warmed by the breath, the tea leaves impart a warm, fragrant aroma with honeyed notes, hints of jasmine, and the sweetness of sun-warmed tropical fruits. After rinsing the tea leaves, a bright citrus note is added.
The tea's flavor is delicate and elegant, sweet and sour, with a slight citrus bitterness that dissolves into honey notes. As the steeping process progresses, a play of flavors begins: a slight tartness, hints of homemade orange peel candies, citrus fruits, and floral honey.
The tea leaves a refreshing, moderately tart aftertaste with a honey-fruity profile and flashes of citrus.
This tea can be steeped up to five times at a ratio of 5 g of tea per 190 ml in a gaiwan or Yixing teapot. The water temperature for brewing is 85-90°C. The color of the infusion is amber-yellow with a subtle light green tint.
Drinking this tea has been noted to gently warm the body, produce a mild tonic effect, improve mood, and promote calm and inspiration.
