A two hundred and fifty gram cake of sheng pu'er of the Kaishunhao brand (勐海开顺号有限公司, měnghǎi kāishùnhào yǒuxiàn gōngsī, Menghai Kaishunhao Ltd.) called Laobanzhang (老班章, lǎobānzhāng) has several interesting features.
The tea leaves for this sheng were picked from pu'er trees near the village of Banpen (邦盆, bāngpén) in the spring of 2013. The cake is named "Laobanzhang," after the famous village of Laobanzhang, located in close proximity to Banpen. From 2013 to 2017, the tea was stored by farmers in Banpen, after which, in 2017, Yang Kaishun (杨开顺, yáng kāishùn), head of the Kai Shun Hao brand, purchased the maocha, and these cakes were produced.
The stylish, minimalist white packaging, with a subtle design of mountains and houses, conceals beautiful, slightly darkened tea leaves pressed into a cake-shaped form, featuring light and dark shades and visible hairs. Also hidden under the cover is an insert depicting the tea trees from which the raw tea was harvested. When lightly brewed, pu-erh tea has floral, honey-like flavors and aromas, while steeping it more strongly prevents bitterness and enhances its effects.
