This exquisite example of red tea was created in 2005 by a respected tea master named Liang Jingde. That summer, Jiang Yuanxun, CEO of the renowned Wuyi Zheng Shan tea company, was accompanying guests from Beijing to the Wuyi Mountains in China's Fujian Province. While in the nature reserve, located at an altitude of 1,800 km, they encountered tea buds whose beautiful aroma captivated all the guests. The decision to create a red tea from these delicate shoots was immediate.
After the buds were collected, they were immediately sent to the village of Tongmu. It was there, 300 years ago, that Lapsang Souchong tea, famous and revered among tea connoisseurs, was produced. Liang Jun De, who had inherited the tea production techniques from his ancestors, was entrusted with overseeing the production of this aromatic beverage. He achieved perfection in the oxidation and drying processes. But the master decided to continue experimenting, not resting on his laurels. By adding an improved fermentation process to the fermentation techniques, a completely new tea was created, named Jin Jun Mei, which translates from Chinese as "golden eyebrows."
Today, tea connoisseurs remark not only on the drink's vibrant aroma but also on its beneficial properties. Jin jun mei is recommended for those experiencing depression or low mood. The drink helps relieve irritability and reduce fatigue.
The main distinguishing feature of this aromatic drink from other red tea varieties is its twisted buds, many of which are golden in color. To produce 5 kg of tea, approximately 50,000 buds must be picked. The process is quite labor-intensive: it takes tea pickers two days to obtain the required number of buds.
