Da Jin Ya Dian Hong: An Imperial Gift from Yunnan
Da Jin Ya Dian Hong (Chinese: 大金芽滇红, pinyin: Dà jīn yá diān hóng), or Yunnan Big Golden Buds Red Tea, is one of the most exquisite and expensive red teas in the world. Its name speaks for itself: the large, fluffy, golden buds truly resemble precious stones.
Origin and characteristics
This tea originates from Yunnan Province, China. It is here, on high-altitude plantations, that the tea bushes that provide the raw material for Da Jin Ya Dian Hong grow.
Key features of tea:
- Raw materials: For the production of this tea, only large buds of tea bushes, covered with delicate golden fluff, are used.
- Flavor: The tea has a deep, rich flavor, with honey notes, nutty undertones, and a slight acidity. The aftertaste is long and pleasant.
- Aroma: The aroma of tea is rich, with notes of dried fruits, flowers and wood.
- Appearance: Dried tea buds are very impressive: large, fluffy, and golden in color. The brewed tea is bright red.
Production
The production of Da Jin Ya Dian Hong is a complex and labor-intensive process. The tea buds are harvested by hand to avoid damaging the delicate hairs. After harvesting, the buds undergo a special processing process, including withering, rolling, and fermentation.
Beneficial properties
Da Jin Ya Dian Hong, like other varieties of red tea, has a number of health benefits:
- Antioxidant properties: Protects the body's cells from the harmful effects of free radicals.
- Tonic effect: Due to the caffeine content, tea invigorates and increases productivity.
- Improved digestion: Promotes normal functioning of the gastrointestinal tract.
- Positive effect on the cardiovascular system: Helps reduce blood cholesterol levels.
How to brew
To fully reveal the taste and aroma of Da Jin Ya Dian Hong, it is recommended to follow the following brewing rules:
- Water temperature: The optimal water temperature for brewing is 95-100°C.
- Proportions: For one teaspoon of tea it is recommended to use 150-200 ml of water.
- Brewing time: First brew – 30-40 seconds, subsequent brews – 10-15 seconds longer.
- Utensils: It is better to use glass or porcelain utensils for brewing.
Da Jin Ya Dian Hong is a true masterpiece of tea art that will enchant you with its exquisite taste and aroma. This tea makes a wonderful gift for yourself and your loved ones.
When dry, the tea smells of sweet oriental spices, old books on a shelf, and meadow flowers warmed by the hot sun. In a warmed teacup, the tea becomes more intense and rich. It features sweet Turkish delights, nuts, and flowers, particularly the delicate aroma of rose petals. Rinsed tea leaves smell of dried fruit trees and dried fruits, with nutty notes in their aroma.
The first two steeps reveal flavors of Turkish sweets, dried fruits, nuts, and spices. By the third steep, a slight bitterness is added, which doesn't overpower the dried fruit and spice flavors, but rather enhances them and enriches them. The taste is very full and oily. After five full steeps, the tea becomes tart, the dried fruit and sweet aromas fade, and a watery quality emerges.
The aftertaste is sweetish, with a hint of dried fruit.
The infusion is amber in color, closer to cognac. The infusion is clear and transparent.
Dian Hong warms the body well, gently tones, and gives vigor and energy.

Dian Hong conquered not only China, but the whole world. It comes from the Celestial Empire and is known as Yunnan red tea. The main distinguishing feature of the tea is the presence of golden-colored buds. It is said that this special tea drink was created for tea drinking of the Chinese high society and was an excellent gift for all foreign delegations that ever visited the Celestial Empire.
