Ban Pen Village in Bulang Shan Mountains and Making Sheng Puer

There are many tea mountains around the city of Menghai. We spent more than one day on the Bulangshan mountain range (布朗山, bùlǎngshān). After a tour of the Bai Run factory and a dinner in honor of the friendship of peoples, having fraternized with the Chinese, we went for a drive around the tea places of the Bulang mountains. We went to the famous Laobanzhang (老班章, lǎobānzhāng), to the village of Banpen (班盆, bānpén)), and walked around the puer trees to our heart's content.

To get to the city of Menghai in Yunnan Province, a treasure trove of loose and pressed pu'er, you have to cross a border cordon where the military is suspicious of tourists. Our documents were checked both at the entrance to Menghai and on the way back to the city of Jinghong . Probably, such strictness towards strangers is connected with the close borders with other countries: Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar (formerly Burma).
