Sagan-Dailya (Rhododendron Adamsii)
Between the earth and the sky, on the rocky slopes of the Sayan-Altai, grows the perennial plant Sagan-Dailya (Rhododendron Adamsii). This evergreen shrub has gained extraordinary popularity among true lovers of exotic types of tea. From its leaves and flowers, they make a healing drink that charges with energy, strengthens health and prolongs life.
Legends and Traditions
The history of Sagan-Dail is shrouded in many poetic legends. According to one of them, the miraculous herbal tea owes its name to two lovers, Sagan and Daile. Their regular meeting place was the steep mountain slopes. Every day, a white eagle flew there from the snowy mountain peaks, turning into a noble youth. However, the serene happiness of the young couple incredibly irritated the evil shaman. Having decided to separate them, the old envious woman set traps for Sagan on the cliff, and gave Daile a sleeping potion.
Having fallen into a treacherous trap, the eagle-man was badly injured, but still managed to get out and fly away. The girl, waking up from a heavy sleep, saw only bloody feathers between the stones. Sobbing uncontrollably, she threw herself down from the cliff. And at that very moment, a giant bird descended from the heavenly heights, picked up its beloved and flew away. And in the places where the blood and tears fell, evergreen flowering bushes grew.
According to another legend, Sagaan Dali appeared on the mountain slopes in those places where mighty Buryat warriors stuck their spears after victorious battles. That is why he has the ability to heal even hopeless patients.
There are other myths in the Baikal mountain region, most of which have Mongolian roots. In Buddhist mythology, Sagan-Dailya is one of the seven plants surrounding the enlightened Bhaishajyaguru, the teacher of healing.
In addition to the traditional name, there are such names as white wing, Belogorsk herbal tea, fragrant rod, life-prolonging herb...
Growing areas
Rhododendron adamsii grows on the slopes of the Altai, Tien Shan and Sayan Mountains. Less often, the bush, "in which the mountain spirit lives", is found on the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk and the northern tip of Sakhalin. This extremely rare plant is listed in the Red Book of the Amur Region due to its specific growing conditions. Therefore, its independent collection is considered illegal.
The Altai herb, collected in the vicinity of Lake Baikal, is of the greatest value. It is believed that "Buryat ginseng", which has absorbed all the beneficial properties of the sacred lake and the beneficial mountain air, has a comprehensive healing effect on the body.
Production technology
When making medicinal tea, young shoots, flowers and leaves are used. The best time for collection is considered to be the end of summer (during this period the plant contains the greatest amount of useful substances).
