Another favorite place for Puer connoisseurs is Mount Da Xue Shan, at the foot of which is the village of Mengku.
Today, there are just over twenty mountain villages where high-quality tea crops are harvested. Each territory is unique not only in its climate, but also in its population, local traditions, and tea production conditions.
Mengku Tea Factory
All types of high-quality pu-erh tea have their own manufacturer's mark or brand. The Mengku factory of the same name, which produces a huge variety of pu-erhs, is very popular. Teas of this brand have a refined, pleasant aroma, and are oily and sweet in taste. The aromas are dominated by floral, dried fruit, caramel, and honey shades. They have notes of confectionery aroma and spices. The factory was founded in the middle of the last century by tea masters, headed by the scientist Feng He Yun. Currently, modern production is located in Lincang, producing more than 10 thousand tons of certified high-quality products of various varieties.
Distinctive features of Puerh from the Mengku region
All produced puer tea varieties differ in taste characteristics, which depends on the place where the trees grow. In particular, soils with a large amount of organic matter affect the high quality of raw materials and their excellent taste characteristics. In general, puer tea products are divided into several main types. For example, sheng is a green tea. It has large-sized, greenish-brown pressed leaves. Black puer tea - shu has small leaves of brown-black or golden-brown color. White puer is similar to shen teas, but has a whitish coating and a large content of buds. All teas have pleasant aromas of meadow herbs and fruits. They can taste tart, soft, bitter and sweet. But what really distinguishes puer tea from Mengku is its unique and strong aroma.
In this region, the main volume of production is sheng puer. Shu puer is practically not produced. This is due to the climatic features of the city district of Lincang as a whole. Therefore, almost all raw materials intended for the production of shu puer are sent to tea factories in the city of Menghai for further fermentation using the "Vodui" technology.
Puer tea in the 80s of the last century, having won first place among large-leaf teas, received the status of national. It should be noted that this type of tea has been popular at all times. But at the beginning of the 21st century, it became especially popular all over the world, receiving gold awards at international exhibitions and presentations. It is regularly supplied to the countries of Europe and Asia.
